Amazon gives Prime members free grocery delivery
Today (29th July), Amazon has announced that Prime members will get free and fast grocery delivery from Amazon Fresh.
Members in around 300 postcodes across Greater London and the South East will be able to do their weekly shop and choose from a selection of products, including meat, seafood, produce, snacks and household essentials, with options for fast one-and two-hour delivery windows.
The shift in consumer behaviour due to COVID-19 will have accelerated this launch for Amazon, but it’s clear that the expansion into same day grocery delivery has been in fruition for a while, especially given some product availability on Prime Now.
In fact, the removal of Amazon Pantry from their offering at the end of June freed the business up to focus on Fresh. With the offer of same day delivery (based upon minimum spend) this gives Amazon a USP to take to their 15 million Prime subscribers to tempt them away from their existing grocer.
What does this mean?
Now more than ever, products will need to be visible in an ever-congested marketplace. Brands therefore need to ensure that product detail pages are optimised with imagery and product content; this will be key to winning those early adopters and increasing the search relevancy of the products online.
With Amazon’s desire to increase usage and spend on its Advertising platform, it would be assumed that the opportunity to run marketing campaigns to support promotions on site will follow in the near future.
At OMG Transact we support our clients, both old and new, with a clear understanding of how to maximise visibility on Amazon – throughout the path to purchase. Get in touch with us today to find out how we can help your business grow.
